Exercise Without The Intimidation
A supported way to keep moving
Exercising after an osteoarthritis diagnosis in your hips can feel intimidating, especially if you've been wait-listed for a hip replacement. We're here to make the process easier and to give you the support you need to safely manage your osteoarthritis with exercise.
Exercise is widely recommended as a first-line part of managing hip osteoarthritis, because stronger muscles around the hip take load off the joint. Every class is led by a Registered Kinesiologist in our Lower Lonsdale studio, not a gym employee reading a script. Active Rehab Rx was founded by Kerri Anderson, Registered Kinesiologist, CES, and every instructor on the team trains under her approach.
Pre & POst surgery
Support before and after your hip replacement
-
Pre Hip Replacement
Strengthening your hips before your surgery makes recovery from the procedure easier and quicker.
-
Post Hip Replacement
Your surgeon will likely have you moving around the same day as your surgery and starting the rehab process almost immediately. We can start seeing patients 6 weeks post surgery.
Ask your surgeon first. Some surgical interventions have movement contraindications, so check whether there are movements to avoid, and for how long, before you start.

What our clients say about our Hip Osteoarthritis Rehab program
-
"I’ve been benefitting from Kerri and her team’s expertise for almost 5 years now. They have helped me prepare and rehab from two hip replacement surgeries. I continue with the weekly classes to increase strength and flexibility and they make a world of difference. I can’t say enough about the benefits of Active Rehab RX"
— Active Rehab Rx Client, Hip Rehab Program
-
"Earlier this year (2026) I hobbled into Active Rehab as sort of a last resort,. For three years I had been seeking various forms of rehab after a hip replacement surgery complication made me dependent on various forms of assistance just to get around. Kerri and her team (specifically Jeremy) were unfazed and knew what muscles I needed to strengthen and how to accomplish that. With their expertise and encouragement, I have made great strides, literally, in regaining my mobility. It hasn't been easy, but without ActiveRehab, I would still be hobbling!"

common questions
Before your first class
-
It's a small group exercise class led by a Registered Kinesiologist for people with hip osteoarthritis, or who are waiting for or recovering from a hip replacement. We rebuild hip stability, alignment and strength and address the compensations that come with a stiff, painful hip. It's exercise-based, with no hands-on treatment.
-
Yes, and it's one of the most useful things you can do. Stronger muscles around the hip take load off the joint. Your assessment shows where to start, the work is adjusted as you build the necessary strength, and we encourage communication with the instructors if something isn't feeling right in your body.
-
Absolutely. The class is built to restore hip stability, alignment and strength, and to address the muscular imbalances and compensations that come with osteoarthritis. You don't need a surgery date or a wait-list spot to join.
-
Strengthening your hips before surgery makes recovery easier and quicker, and many clients join while they're wait-listed.
-
Each class starts with a 6-minute cardio interval warm-up, then works through glute re-engagement and strengthening with an emphasis on the affected side, strengthening for the muscles and movement patterns of your hips and knees, spinal alignment, core strength, and gait and muscular imbalances.
-
That's something we work on directly. Gait dysfunction and muscular imbalances are part of every class, and your assessment looks at how you move so we can start with the compensations that matter most for you.
-
Most extended health plans cover registered kinesiology. We'll give you what you need for your claim after each session.
